our story so far
We are a leading New Zealand manufacturer wholesale distributor and retailer of sustainable household and personal care products. We promote the use of safer, healthier alternatives to conventional everyday products.
The ecostore range currently consists of more than 100 products, all of which are manufactured In New Zealand to the latest environmental and sustainability standards.
Better for the earth and better for your health
The guiding principle of formulations is that the end product must not only be good for the planet, but must also be good for the user. Individual health issues are at the forefront of product development.
A different approach to business
ecostore was founded in 1993 by Malcolm and Melanie Rands from their home in an eco village in New Zealand. Their dream was ambitious - to create a healthier more sustainable world.
One of the ways they saw to do this was to set up a business providing everyday household products that could help people be healthier and ‘green up’ at home.
The second way was by setting up the Fairground Foundation. Fairground is a charitable organisation that is funded by ecostore profits to promote sustainability through ‘on-the-ground’ action.
Small beginnings
ecostore started out as a mail order business selling eco friendly products to a small group of dedicated greenies and organic gardeners - many of whom have remained loyal customers.
Within four years we had earned a reputation for our genuine, eco friendly and high quality products within a wider community.
ecostore quickly outgrew its location in the Rands’ basement and was moved to Auckland where most of their customers lived.
Where we are at now
Fifteen years on we have our own research and development facility and our products are made in our own ‘certified sustainable’ factory. In 2003 we launched our cleaning range into supermarkets nationwide and we are currently exporting to several countries overseas including the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
Safer ingredients
- We use sustainably sourced plant and mineral based ingredients to create safer, healthier products that do the job just as effectively as the petrochemical based ones.
- We practise the precautionary approach - if there is any doubt about the safety of an ingredient for the environment or for people's health we will find a safer alternative.
Outstanding performance
- We set the benchmark high. Our products have to perform just as well or better than top selling supermarket brands.
Value for money
- Our plant based ingredients are more expensive than petrochemical ones but we manage to keep our prices down by economically concentrating our formulations.
- We don't use cheap fillers or bulking agents - just pure active ingredients.
- Cost per use is significantly less than many other supermarket brands.
Ecostore products are made in New Zealand, GE free, are not tested on animals, and come in recyclable packaging.
