
Before founding ecostore in 1993 Malcolm worked on community level projects for City Councils. He organized successful city wide events such as the first National Buskers Festival and the Merry Mid Winter Festival both based in Whangarei.
Malcolm helped introduce the ‘Green Dollar Barter System’ to Australasia and has also managed various not for profit organisations.
In 2002 Malcolm featured as resident ‘ecoman’ on weekly nationwide TV sharing his expert knowledge on a wide range of environmental issues. He also featured on a show called 'Business is Booming' - a nationwide TV series about successful New Zealand Businesses.
Malcolm is a frequent guest on Radio and is a regular guest speaker on Kiwi FM with breakfast host Wallace Chapman on Wednesday mornings.
Malcolm is a popular key note speaker at events such as the 2007 Thrive Business conference and the opening of the Human Rights Film Festival in Auckland.
He has been invited to speak to students at Auckland University’s Business School - most recently at the 2007 SPARK conference - an innovation of the University's business school and Icehouse - a not for profit organization.
In 2004 Malcolm was invited to join the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development where he is currently on the Executive Council.
He was also invited to join the Environmental Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EINZ).
For many years he has been on the Voting Assembly for Greenpeace.
Malcolm is a keen organic gardener with more than 20 years experience. He also has an avid interest in the principles of permaculture - some of which he has applied to the development of the ecostore business model.
Malcolm was a founding member of one of New Zealand’s first Eco
Villages (a permaculture project) where he and his family
still live for parts of the year with five other families.
Green Ribbon Awards are presented every year by the Minister for the Environment to companies or individuals who make a contribution beyond the call of duty to sustain and protect New Zealand's environment.
Malcolm was the 2002 winner in the category of outstanding achievement in Raising Awareness of Environmental Issues.
Ecostore products are made in New Zealand, GE free, are not tested on animals, and come in recyclable packaging.
