fairground foundation

Fairground is a not-for-profit organisation that is funded by ecostore to create a healthier, more sustainable world through courageous leadership and 'on-the-ground' action. It is the initiative of ecostore founder, Malcolm Rands. It’s purpose is to create projects that make a difference in people's lives and to the communities we live in, particularly in the areas of health, culture and sustainability.

Ecostore and Fairground - a new model for business

Companies like ecostore have already shown that business can inspire positive change in the world. Over the last 16 years ecostore has become a successful manufacturer and distributor of high quality, accessible and affordable eco products - but that’s only half the challenge. ecostore was also designed to give back to the community in other ways. For that reason ecostore was designed to donate a percentage of its profits to a social entrepreneurial foundation, Fairground.

What are we up to?

Art exhibition

Fairground is currently supporting an art event in its new premises in Freemans Bay – hosting Parlour Gallery for the duration of their three-week show called ‘Magic, Upholstery, puzzles and speech contests’ in which 15 local contemporary artists will show their work. The show opens March 1

Urban eco village

Fairground is also starting a consultation process with a wide range of architects, town planners, developers and building suppliers to look at high density eco housing close to the heart of Auckland city.
With the population increasing and becoming more urbanized Malcolm believes it’s imperative to create practical, commercially successful green solutions for healthy housing and sustainable living. Malcolm’s plan is to create a vibrant, healthy urban eco-village that’s so successful it will be copied by developers worldwide.

Inspiring Change

Before creating ecostore, Malcolm Rands worked for many not for profit organisations. You could say that that is where his heart is. His dream in starting up a business like ecostore was to one day channel a percentage of the profits into things that he felt passionate about. Things that could make a difference to the health and well being of people and the planet.

After many years in business, Malcolm and the rest of the team at fairground are very excited to be able to be able to start realising some of these dreams.
