Synthetic Perfumes are petrochemical-derived ingredients that are used in a wide range of consumer products. They are often labelled as 'Parfum' on pack, and their ingredient composition does not have to be declared (we also use this term on our packaging but disclose the full composition on our website). The International Fragrance Association has a list of 3059 chemicals that can be used to make synthetic fragrances. Synthetic perfumes can be irritating to the eyes, skin and lungsi; and can contain a number of allergen components that can cause allergic contact dermatitisii, with an estimation of 1-2% of the population having fragrance-related allergiesiii. Synthetic perfumes are also detrimental to the environment, and are not removed during wastewater treatment, which is a major cause for concern considering their high aquatic toxicityii. At ecostore we use natural essential oil fragrances, and also choose to label the allergens present for those who know they have an allergy to them. We also offer many of our products in fragrance free (ultra sensitive) variants for those who have sensitivities.
